Mantras

Mantra 1

Up, yea forth, are stirred these sweetest songs, these praises. Ever victorious, with wealth, with aids that fail not, they speed like chariots to the prize.

Mantra 2

Like the Kaṇvas, like the Bhṛgus, like suns, they won—yea all—by sacred thought. Exalting Indra with their praises, the Āyavas, the Priyamedhas, lifted up their song.

Mantra 3

Forth, even now, is poured his portion, like wealth for him that hath conquered. Whom Indra, the tawny-steeded, none may foil—on him the foe bestows not mastery; rather, he establishes might in the soma-offerer.

Mantra 4

A spell unshattered, well-established, of fair fashion, he setteth within the sacrificial acts. Even the former impulsions overpass (all hindrance) for him who, by deed, hath his being in Indra.

Frequently Asked Questions

For prosperity with victory: it propels praise as a winning force, seeks wealth and the rightful ‘share,’ and asks Indra to make the performer hard to defeat and the rite obstacle-free.

It treats stoma (praise) as an active vehicle: well-formed speech is imagined to speed to the prize (vāja), bringing success and gain to the patron.

It is soma-colored (somin, Indra context), but it can be recited more generally as an Indra victory-stuti; a simple offering and focused intention can substitute outside a soma sacrifice.
