Mantra 1
Waters, gold-hued, pure, and cleansing—within whom Savitar hath been born, within whom Agni is; ye who have held Agni as an embryo, ye fair and golden—those Waters, for us, be welfare, be kindly, be benign.
Mantra 2
In whose midmost space King Varuṇa moves, looking down on men, discerning truth and falsehood;—the Waters which have set Agni as an embryo within them, those golden Waters—may they be for us kindly, bringing weal.
Mantra 3
Those Waters whose portion the Gods in heaven do order for enjoyment; those which in the mid-air manifoldly take form; those golden ones that have received Fire as embryo within them—may those Waters be for us welfare, kindly and benign.
Mantra 4
With auspicious eye look ye on me, O Waters; with auspicious body touch ye, drawing near, my skin. Ye that are ghee-distilling, pure, and purifying—those Waters, for us, may they become welfare, may they be kindly.
To empower water as a purifying and healing medium—used for sprinkling, washing, or bathing—so it removes impurity and brings welfare (śam) and benign protection.
It expresses that waters are not only cooling and cleansing; they also contain inner tejas (transformative heat). That hidden fire-power helps the water ‘work’ against affliction and restore vitality.
Recite the hymn over a vessel of clean water, then sprinkle the doorway and living space or wash the face and hands with it while intending purification and calm. If someone is unwell, gently sprinkle the head and limbs or use it for a bath.
