Ritual Procedure for Śrāddha: Sequence, Eligibility, and Offerings to Ancestors

पितृतीर्थेन सलिलं तथैव सलिलाञ्जलिम् । मातामहेभ्यस्तेनैव पिण्डांस्तीर्थेन निर्वपेत् । दक्षिणाग्रेषु दर्भेषु पुष्पधूपादिपूजिताम् ॥ १४.३४ ॥

pitṛtīrthena salilaṃ tathaiva salilāñjalim | mātāmahebhyaḥ tenaiva piṇḍāṃs tīrthena nirvapet | dakṣiṇāgreṣu darbheṣu puṣpadhūpādipūjitām || 14.34 ||

Unter Verwendung des «pitṛ-tīrtha» (Handhaltung für die Ahnen) soll man Wasser darbringen und ebenso eine Wasserlibation mit gefalteten Händen. Nach derselben Methode soll man auch die Piṇḍa-Gaben für die Großväter mütterlicherseits darlegen, sie auf Kuśa-Gras legen, dessen Spitzen nach Süden weisen, und sie mit Blumen, Räucherwerk und ähnlichen Gaben verehren.
