Da sprachen sie: „Geh — Wohlergehen sei dir beschieden, o König, samt deiner Gabe. Dies möge anderen gegeben werden.“ So sagten sie und zogen in den Wald.
Ṛṣayaḥ (the Sages)
Tirtha: Prabhāsa-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: null
Scene: Sages politely dismiss a king’s gift, offering blessings; they turn toward the forest path, embodying calm renunciation while the king stands humbled yet respected.
True holiness includes detachment and integrity: one may bless the donor yet refuse the gift and advise giving it elsewhere.
The episode belongs to Prabhāsakṣetra Māhātmya, reinforcing dharmic conduct as part of pilgrimage merit.
Redirecting dāna: give charity to appropriate recipients rather than forcing acceptance upon ascetics.
