Sūta
Tirtha: Mahākāla-pīṭha (implied)
Type: kshetra
Listener: General audience; addressed as instruction for ‘naraḥ’
Scene: Temple night vigil: devotees seated with lamps, some chanting, some meditating; the liṅga adorned; the sky dark outside while the sanctum glows; a symbolic gate opens to a radiant, ageless realm.
Faithful austerity (fasting) and devotional vigilance are portrayed as direct paths to liberation-like attainment beyond decay and death.
The practice is framed in the Mahākāla context of Ujjayinī described in this adhyāya.
Observe fasting (upavāsa) and keep a devotional night vigil (jāgara) before the deity.
