पिता पितामहो भ्राता सकुल्यो जननी तथा । कन्याप्रदः पूर्वनाशे प्रकृतिस्थः परःपरः

pitā pitāmaho bhrātā sakulyo jananī tathā | kanyāpradaḥ pūrvanāśe prakṛtisthaḥ paraḥparaḥ

Vater, Großvater, Bruder, Sippenverwandter und auch die Mutter — jeder von ihnen ist befugt, die Jungfrau zur Ehe zu geben. Ist der frühere nicht verfügbar oder nicht mehr handlungsfähig, so wird der nächste, in rechter Reihenfolge, zur zuständigen Autorität.
