मङ्गलपत्रिकाग्रहणम् — Reception of the Auspicious Marriage Invitation
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; it introduces Viṣṇu’s arrival at Kailāsa in disguise, a narrative device often used to test perception and reveal divine play.
Significance: Highlights līlā and concealment: even great devas may adopt veṣa (disguise), reminding devotees that the Lord’s workings are subtle and not always recognized outwardly.
It highlights divine humility and purposeful divine action: even Acyuta (Viṣṇu) approaches Kailāsa with intention, showing that the highest beings honor Śiva’s abode and participate in the unfolding of dharma through deliberate līlā.
Kailāsa signifies Saguna Śiva’s accessible presence. Viṣṇu’s arrival there (with due preparation and retinue) reflects the Purāṇic theme that devotion and reverence toward Śiva’s manifest form and abode are integral to auspicious outcomes.
The verse suggests sādhaka-like preparedness: approach Śiva with intentionality and proper observance—mentally “arranging one’s veṣa” through purity, mantra-japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī, Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and respectful worship before entering sacred space.
