Sita’s Lament and Prophecy of Lanka’s Ruin
राक्षसीवशमापन्ना भर्त्स्यमाना सुदारुणम्।चिन्तयन्ती सुदुःखार्ता नाहं जीवितुमुत्सुहे।।।।
rākṣasīvaśam āpannā bhartsyamānā sudāruṇam |
cintayantī suduḥkhārtā nāhaṃ jīvitum utsahe ||
In die Gewalt der Rākṣasīs geraten, grausam bedroht und von sorgenvollen Gedanken in überwältigendem Schmerz verzehrt, habe ich keinen Willen mehr zu leben.
"Blessed are the gods, gandharvas, and siddhas and great sages who are able to see my lotus-eyed lord Rama.
The verse exposes the violence of adharma: intimidation and unlawful captivity crush the spirit of the righteous, underscoring why dharma demands protection of the vulnerable.
Sītā is guarded and threatened by demonesses in Laṅkā and expresses despair at her continued suffering.
Even in despair, Sītā’s integrity remains intact; her suffering highlights her steadfast refusal to accept unrighteous compromise.
