Viṣṇudūtas (messengers of Viṣṇu)

Concept: Even a sinner becomes eligible for grace through a small Viṣṇu-centered ritual act performed in the Lord’s presence.

Application: Keep a daily lamp (dīpa) before Viṣṇu/Nārāyaṇa (or a sacred image), treating the act as mindful offering rather than mere routine; let small consistent devotion counter past habits.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: raudra

Type: temple

FAQs

It literally means “awakening/lighting of the lamp,” suggesting a devotional or ritual act performed before Vāsudeva (Viṣṇu), often implying reverent worship and auspicious observance.

The explicit speaker tag “viṣṇudūtā ūcuḥ” indicates that the Viṣṇudūtas (messengers of Viṣṇu) are speaking.

The verse contrasts grievous wrongdoing “against Viṣṇu” with the performance of a devotional act in Viṣṇu’s presence, highlighting accountability for offenses and the centrality of reverent worship.
