The Exposition of the Ṣaṣṭhī-vrata Observed Through the Twelve Months
विरूढधान्यांकुरकैः सुदीपावलिभिस्तथा । सार्द्धै सर्गणकैधूपः सौहालककरंजकैः ॥ १८ ॥
virūḍhadhānyāṃkurakaiḥ sudīpāvalibhistathā | sārddhai sargaṇakaidhūpaḥ sauhālakakaraṃjakaiḥ || 18 ||
Mit Sprossen gekeimter Körner, mit Reihen hell brennender Lichter; und mit Räucherwerk, bereitet zusammen mit duftenden Stoffen wie dem Harz (sauhālaka) und karañja – so ist das Ritual zu vollziehen.
Narada (within the anukramanika-style narration of ritual items)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It emphasizes sāttvika upacāras (pure offerings) in worship—light (dīpa), fragrance (dhūpa), and fresh growth (sprouted grains)—symbolizing inner clarity, sanctity, and renewed life offered to the deity.
Bhakti is expressed through attentive service (sevā) in pūjā: offering light and fragrance with care reflects focused remembrance and reverence, making devotion tangible through disciplined, beautiful worship.
It reflects kalpa-prayoga (ritual procedure)—the practical science of arranging offerings like dīpa and dhūpa and selecting suitable fragrant substances, aligning worship with orthodox pūjā conventions.
