Educational Q&A

Outer markers—beauty, dress, and refined speech—strongly shape belief and social judgment; the verse highlights how necessity and dharma in exile can require concealment, while society may distrust a declared low status when it conflicts with visible refinement.

During the Pāṇḍavas’ incognito period, Draupadī presents herself as a Sairandhrī seeking service; the narrator notes that onlookers do not accept her claim of being a mere maid because her appearance and speech seem too noble.
