Jarāsandha–Vāsudeva Saṃvāda: Kṣātra-Dharma, Pride, and the Ethics of Coercion

Sabhā Parva, Adhyāya 20

मयि नीतिर्बलं भीमे रक्षिता चावयोर्जय: । मागध॑ साधयिष्याम इष्टिं त्रय इवाग्नय:,मुझमें नीति है, भीमसेनमें बल है और अर्जुन हम दोनोंकी रक्षा करनेवाले हैं; अतः जैसे तीन अग्नियाँ यज्ञकी सिद्धि करती हैं, उसी प्रकार हम तीनों मिलकर जरासंधके वधका काम पूरा कर लेंगे

mayi nītir balaṁ bhīme rakṣitā cāvayor jayaḥ | māgadhaṁ sādhayiṣyāma iṣṭiṁ traya ivāgnayaḥ ||

Vāyu-deva sprach: „In mir wohnt nīti, rechte Politik und Strategie; in Bhīma wohnt die Kraft; und Arjuna steht als Beschützer von uns beiden und als Bürge des Sieges. Darum: Wie die drei heiligen Feuer gemeinsam das Opfer zur Vollendung bringen, so werden wir drei, vereint, das Werk vollenden und den König von Magadha, Jarāsandha, erschlagen.“
