Aṃśāvataraṇa-kathana (Catalog of Divine/Asuric Portions in Human Births) — Chapter 61

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic action in a royal context: hearing of a rightful occasion (svayaṃvara), the Pāṇḍavas proceed with purpose, win Draupadī through sanctioned means, and then act prudently by remaining in Pāñcāla until circumstances stabilize, before returning to their political center.

The Pāṇḍavas learn that Draupadī’s svayaṃvara is to be held in Pāñcāla, they go there, win her, are later recognized, stay in Pāñcāla for a year, and then return to Hastināpura.
