Śṛṅgī’s Curse on King Parikṣit

तस्मात् सम्मन्त्रयामोड्द्य भुजजड्रानामनामयम् | यथा भवेद्धि सर्वेषां मा न: कालो5त्यगादयम्,यथा नष्ट पुरा देवा गुढमग्निं गुहागतम् । इसलिये आज हमें अच्छी तरह विचार कर लेना चाहिये कि किस उपायसे हम सभी नाग कुशलपूर्वक रह सकते हैं। अब हमें व्यर्थ समय नहीं गँवाना चाहिये। हमलोगोंमें प्राय: सब नाग बुद्धिमान् और चतुर हैं। यदि हम मिल-जुलकर सलाह करें तो इस संकटसे छूटनेका कोई उपाय ढूँढ़ निकालेंगे; जैसे पूर्वकालमें देवताओंने गुफामें छिपे हुए अग्निको खोज निकाला था
tasmāt sammantrayāmoddya bhujagendrāṇām anāmayam | yathā bhaved dhi sarveṣāṁ mā naḥ kālo ’tyagād ayam, yathā naṣṭaṁ purā devā gūḍham agniṁ guhāgatam ||
Darum lasst uns heute wohlberaten nach den Mitteln suchen, durch die Wohlergehen und Sicherheit der Schlangenherrscher gewahrt werden können. Lasst diese Zeit nicht vergeblich an uns vorübergehen. Wenn wir gemeinsam beraten, werden wir einen Ausweg aus dieser Gefahr finden — so wie einst die Götter das verlorene Feuer entdeckten, das verborgen in einer Höhle lag.
