Saṃvaraṇa’s Collapse, Ministerial Aid, and Vasiṣṭha’s Approach to Sūrya

Educational Q&A

The verse defines true personhood in ethical terms: a good deed should not ‘perish’ in someone—meaning one must remember kindness, remain grateful, and seek an appropriate return (pratikriyā) rather than letting benefaction be forgotten.

Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Arjuna (Pārtha) and says he has considered how to repay a benefactor’s help; he frames their next action as a moral obligation of gratitude—ensuring that the kindness shown to them does not go unrepaid or unacknowledged.
