बभज्जतुस्तदा वृक्षॉल्लताश्चाकर्षतुस्तदा । मत्ताविव च संरब्धौ वारणौ षष्टिहायनौ,जैसे साठ वर्षकी अवस्थावाले दो मतवाले गजराज कुपित हो परस्पर युद्ध करते हों, उसी प्रकार वे दोनों एक-दूसरेसे भिड़कर वृक्षोंको तोड़ने और लताओंको खींच-खींचकर उजाड़ने लगे

babhajjatus tadā vṛkṣāl latāś cākarṣatus tadā | mattāv iva ca saṃrabdhau vāraṇau ṣaṣṭihāyanau ||

Vaiśaṃpāyana sprach: Da begannen die beiden, Bäume zu zerbrechen und Schlingpflanzen herabzureißen, und verwüsteten das Gehölz. Wie zwei sechzigjährige Elefantenbullen—berauscht und erzürnt—im Kampf, prallten sie aufeinander und verheerten das Grün.
