Aghora-Mantra Japa: Graded Expiations, Pañcagavya Purification, and Homa for Mahāpātaka-Nivṛtti
Suta Goswami (narrating; verse voiced as a devotional address to Shiva within the narrative)
It frames Shiva as the purifier who dissolves embodied karmic impurities (pātaka) tied to one’s birth-line, supporting Linga-puja as a practice of pāpa-kṣaya and inner cleansing.
Shiva is addressed as Vibhu (all-pervading Pati) whose power of saṁhāra is not merely cosmic dissolution but also the burning of karmic bondage (pāśa) afflicting the pāśu (individual soul).
Atonement through Śiva-bhakti—especially Linga-archana with repentance and mantra-japa—aligned with Pāśupata intent: turning the mind to Pati so pāśa (sin/karma) is dissolved.
