FAQs

The verse frames a dharma-parīkṣā (test of righteousness): the petitioner asks for what is “dearer than life,” pushing the listener toward the Purāṇic theme that true merit is revealed when attachment and compassion are tested under extreme demands.

Indirectly, it sets the stage for bhakti-informed ethics: devotion in Purāṇic narratives is not only worship but also the refinement of the heart—where one’s choices under pressure expose whether one’s values align with dharma and surrender to a higher moral order.

No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, or Kalpa) is taught in this line; the practical takeaway is ethical discernment (dharma-viveka) within a narrative setting rather than a technical ritual or grammatical instruction.
