प्राणाख्यमवलंबस्थमभ्यासात्कुरुते तु यत् । प्राणायामः स विज्ञेयः सबीजोऽबीज एव च ॥ १६ ॥

অভ্যাসের দ্বারা যে সাধনা প্রाणকে তার যথাযথ আধারে স্থিত রেখে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে, তাকেই প্রाणায়াম বলা হয়; আর তা দুই প্রকার—সবীজ ও অবীজ।
