FAQs

It preserves a Purāṇic narrative motif where political-military movement (victory, return, encampment) is anchored to named sacred geography, offering evidence for how texts mapped power and travel onto culturally significant landscapes.

Gandhamādana, a mytho-geographic mountain associated with the Himalayan cosmographic sphere in Sanskrit literature; modern scholarship typically treats it as a literary-geographic toponym rather than a single fixed mountain.

The verse itself is primarily descriptive rather than prescriptive; it foregrounds preparedness and the encounter between worldly power (encampment and conquest) and ascetic presence (tāpasau), a common Purāṇic setup for subsequent moral or philosophical instruction.
