Nārada’s Hymn to Viṣṇu
Nāradasya Viṣṇu-stavaḥ
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ | kathaṃ sanatkumārastu nāradāya mahātmane | proktavān sakalān dharmān kathaṃ tau militāvubhau 1. || 1 ||
Rishis (Sages)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It establishes the sacred inquiry (praśna) that triggers the teaching: the sages seek the origin of Nārada’s instruction—how he received dharma from Sanatkumāra and how their meeting occurred, validating the lineage of knowledge.
Bhakti is not stated directly here, but the verse sets up the guru–śiṣya transmission through which teachings—often culminating in Vishnu-bhakti in the Narada Purana—are authentically received and preserved.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa) is taught in this verse; it functions as a narrative preface introducing the question that will lead into systematic dharma instruction.
