na devabalamāśritya kadācitpāpamācaret | ajñānānnaśyate kṣipraṃ nottaraṃ tu kadācana
Mārkaṇḍeya
Tirtha: Revā (Narmadā) tīrtha
Type: kshetra
Listener: Nareśvara / Pāṇḍava addressee
Scene: A pilgrim about to commit a wrong act is halted by an inner vision of Dharma holding a staff; behind, the river and temple bells remind of accountability.
Dharma demands personal accountability: divine grace is not a license for wrongdoing, especially deliberate wrongdoing.
No new site is named; the verse gives a general dharmic caution within the ongoing tīrtha-mahātmya.
A behavioral restraint is prescribed: avoid pāpa, particularly intentional pāpa committed under the pretext of divine protection.
