Chitrakuta Encampment
avatīrya tu sālāgrāt tasmāt sa samitiñjayaḥ | lakṣmaṇaḥ prāñjalir bhūtvā tasthau rāmasya pārśvataḥ ||
Lakshmana, the conqueror of foes, descended from the top of the sala tree and stood by the side of Rama with folded palms.
Dharma of respectful service: physical obedience is paired with inner reverence, shown by folded palms and standing by one’s elder.
Lakṣmaṇa follows Rāma’s instruction, comes down from the tree, and takes his place beside him respectfully.
Devotion and discipline—Lakṣmaṇa’s readiness to serve and maintain proper conduct.
