Adhyaya 63 — The Birth of Svarocis and the Rescue of Manoramā: The Astra-Heart and the Healing of Curses
मार्कण्डेय उवाच ततः पित्रा स्वयं दत्तां तां कन्यां स विधानतः ।
उपयेमे गिरौ तस्मिन् स्वरोचिश्चारुलोचनाम् ॥
mārkaṇḍeya uvāca tataḥ pitrā svayaṃ dattāṃ tāṃ kanyāṃ sa vidhānataḥ / upayeme girau tasmin svarociś cārulocanām
قال ماركاندييا: «ثم إن تلك الفتاة قد سلّمها أبوها بنفسه، فقام هو (سڤاروتشيصا)، على وفق الشعائر الواجبة، بالزواج من الفتاة حسنة العينين على ذلك الجبل».
Even in romantic or miraculous narratives, the Purāṇic ideal affirms social order (vidhi): unions are legitimized through the father’s consent and proper rite, integrating personal desire with dharma.
Manvantara/vaṃśānucarita mode: a descriptive episode within a Manu-period account, illustrating norms and exemplary events rather than sarga/pratisarga.
The ‘mountain’ setting often signifies elevation/steadiness; the marriage “on the mountain” can be read as union established on firmness (dhṛti) after instability caused by curse and disease.
