Parīkṣit’s Vow on the Gaṅgā and the Advent of Śukadeva Gosvāmī
āśrutya tad ṛṣi-gaṇa-vacaḥ parīkṣit samaṁ madhu-cyud guru cāvyalīkam ābhāṣatainān abhinandya yuktān śuśrūṣamāṇaś caritāni viṣṇoḥ
All that was spoken by the great sages was very sweet to hear, full of meaning and appropriately presented as perfectly true. So after hearing them, Mahārāja Parīkṣit, desiring to hear of the activities of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Personality of Godhead, congratulated the great sages.
This verse shows Parīkṣit’s eagerness to hear Viṣṇu’s pastimes from qualified, truthful sages and guru—highlighting attentive hearing as a primary practice of bhakti.
Because their counsel—along with his guru’s instruction—was sincere and authoritative, Parīkṣit respectfully responded, seeking the proper spiritual solution through Viṣṇu-kathā.
Seek guidance from authentic teachers and sincere devotees, and regularly hear or study Viṣṇu/Kṛṣṇa’s teachings and pastimes with focused attention to cultivate devotion and clarity.
