द्वे जानुनी सुतलं विश्वमूर्ते- रूरुद्वयं वितलं चातलं च । महीतलं तज्जघनं महीपते नभस्तलं नाभिसरो गृणन्ति ॥ २७ ॥
dve jānunī sutalaṁ viśva-mūrter ūru-dvayaṁ vitalaṁ cātalaṁ ca mahītalaṁ taj-jaghanaṁ mahīpate nabhastalaṁ nābhi-saro gṛṇanti
The knees of the universal form are the planetary system of the name Sutala, and the two thighs are the Vitala and Atala planetary systems. The hips are Mahītala, and outer space is the depression of His navel.
This verse maps these subterranean realms onto the limbs of the Lord’s Universal Form: Sutala as His knees, and Vitala and Atala as His thighs—teaching a devotional way to understand cosmic geography.
To give Parīkṣit a practical, contemplative method for God-realization—seeing the entire universe as the Lord’s form—so the mind becomes steady in remembrance and devotion.
Train yourself to see the world as sacred and connected to the Supreme—reducing exploitation and increasing reverence, gratitude, and mindful devotion in daily actions.
