Kriyā-yoga, the Virāṭ-Puruṣa Mapping, and the Sun-God’s Monthly Expansions
वालखिल्या: सहस्राणि षष्टिर्ब्रह्मर्षयोऽमला: । पुरतोऽभिमुखं यान्ति स्तुवन्ति स्तुतिभिर्विभुम् ॥ ४९ ॥
vālakhilyāḥ sahasrāṇi ṣaṣṭir brahmarṣayo ’malāḥ purato ’bhimukhaṁ yānti stuvanti stutibhir vibhum
Facing the chariot, the sixty thousand brāhmaṇa sages known as Vālakhilyas travel in front and offer prayers to the almighty sun-god with Vedic mantras.
They are a vast group of pure brahmaṛṣis, renowned for austerity and devotion, described here as proceeding before the Lord and praising Him with hymns.
To emphasize that the Supreme Lord is approached and honored through devotion—especially by praise and remembrance—shown here by exalted sages who lead by example.
Regularly glorify the Lord through prayer, chanting, and recitation of sacred hymns, cultivating purity of intention and steady remembrance like the sages described in the verse.
