Pradyumna’s Abduction, Mahā-māyā, and the Slaying of Śambara
स एव जातो वैदर्भ्यां कृष्णवीर्यसमुद्भव: । प्रद्युम्न इति विख्यात: सर्वतोऽनवम: पितु: ॥ २ ॥
sa eva jāto vaidarbhyāṁ kṛṣṇa-vīrya-samudbhavaḥ pradyumna iti vikhyātaḥ sarvato ’navamaḥ pituḥ
He took birth in the womb of Vaidarbhī from the seed of Lord Kṛṣṇa and received the name Pradyumna. In no respect was He inferior to His father.
Pradyumna is the celebrated son born to Queen Rukmiṇī (the Vidarbha princess) and Lord Kṛṣṇa, described here as equal to his father in excellence.
It means “born from Kṛṣṇa’s vīrya,” indicating Pradyumna’s birth arises from the Lord’s divine prowess/potency and heroic excellence.
The verse highlights the ideal of inheriting and reflecting divine qualities—devotees can cultivate character, devotion, and excellence by aligning life with Kṛṣṇa’s virtues and teachings.
