Kṛṣṇa Leads Kālayavana to Mucukunda; The Yavana Is Burned; Mucukunda’s Prayers and Boon of Bhakti
युञ्जानानामभक्तानां प्राणायामादिभिर्मन: । अक्षीणवासनं राजन् दृश्यते पुनरुत्थितम् ॥ ६० ॥
yuñjānānām abhaktānāṁ prāṇāyāmādibhir manaḥ akṣīṇa-vāsanaṁ rājan dṛśyate punar utthitam
The minds of nondevotees who engage in such practices as prāṇāyama are not fully cleansed of material desires. Thus, O King, material desires are again seen to arise in their minds.
This verse says that for non-devotees, even disciplined practices like prāṇāyāma may not permanently settle the mind, because latent material desires (vāsanās) remain and reassert themselves.
Śukadeva instructs Parīkṣit that mere mechanical yogic control is incomplete without devotion; without bhakti, deep impressions of desire persist and the mind can rebound.
Use techniques like breathwork as support, but pair them with devotional focus—hearing, chanting, and remembering the Lord—so the root cravings are purified rather than only suppressed.
