Dhruva’s War with the Yakṣas and the Protection of the Holy Name
तस्य ते चापनिर्मुक्ता भित्त्वा वर्माणि रक्षसाम् । कायानाविविशुस्तिग्मा गिरीनशनयो यथा ॥ १७ ॥
tasya te cāpa-nirmuktā bhittvā varmāṇi rakṣasām kāyān āviviśus tigmā girīn aśanayo yathā
The sharp arrows released from the bow of Dhruva Mahārāja pierced the shields and bodies of the enemy, like the thunderbolts released by the King of heaven, which dismantle the bodies of the mountains.
It describes how Dhruva Mahārāja’s sharp arrows pierced the demons’ armor and entered their bodies, compared to thunderbolts breaking mountains—showing his overwhelming martial power in that battle.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī speaks this verse to King Parīkṣit while narrating Dhruva Mahārāja’s conflict during the Yakṣa episode in Canto 4.
When one stands firmly for dharma with disciplined effort, obstacles can be overcome decisively; the verse also reminds readers to use strength responsibly and under higher guidance, not for cruelty or ego.
