muhūtairdaśabhiryāti taṃ mārgamatidustaram | taṃ kālaṃ sumahadvetti puruṣo varṣasaṃmitam
Lomaharṣaṇa/Sūta (deduced for Māheśvara-khaṇḍa narrative style)
Scene: A narrow, dreadful road raced through in a short cosmic measure, yet the traveler’s face shows the agony of time stretching into years.
Suffering and fear make time feel vast; therefore one should live in dharma now to avoid a painful post-death passage.
No single tīrtha is praised in this verse; it teaches a general Purāṇic doctrine of the soul’s journey after death.
None directly; the verse prepares the ground for later praise of charity and righteous acts that ease the journey.
