Skanda
Tirtha: Vārāṇasī (Kāśī)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Agastya (contextual addressee)
Scene: On a Kāśī ghat, a householder performs śrāddha: offering piṇḍas on darbha, pouring water for tarpaṇa, with priests guiding; ancestors are envisioned receiving offerings in subtle form; the city’s temples loom behind.
Pilgrimage is integrated with dharma: honoring ancestors through śrāddha in Vārāṇasī completes one’s obligations and yields the city’s spiritual fruit.
Vārāṇasī (Kāśī) as a place where pitṛ-karmas bear exceptional fruit.
Śrāddha performed with piṇḍa offerings for the pitṛs, done with faith and according to proper procedure.
