Pārthiva-pratimā Pūjā-vidhāna — Procedure for Worship of an Earthen Icon
भगवान्भोगदाता हि नाऽन्यो भोगप्रदायकः । भगस्वामी च भगवान्भर्ग इत्युच्यते बुधैः
bhagavānbhogadātā hi nā'nyo bhogapradāyakaḥ | bhagasvāmī ca bhagavānbharga ityucyate budhaiḥ
唯有薄伽梵(Bhagavān)——吉祥的主——是赐予一切受用之施主,别无他者能授受用。又因彼主为一切福祉与神圣威能(bhaga)之主宰,智者称其为“婆伽(Bharga)”。
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Mantra: bhargo devasya dhīmahi
Type: gayatri
Role: nurturing
It establishes Śiva as the sole sovereign (Pati) who dispenses all fruits—worldly enjoyments (bhoga) and, ultimately, purification and liberation—highlighting dependence on Śiva’s grace rather than on limited powers.
In Linga-worship, the devotee approaches Saguna Śiva as the accessible Lord who grants results. Calling Him “Bharga” emphasizes His radiant, purifying presence in the Linga—removing impurity (mala) while also granting rightful worldly benefits.
Offer daily Linga-pūjā with the Panchākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), praying for purified intention: accept bhoga as Śiva’s gift while seeking Bharga’s cleansing grace through bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) and steady japa.
