Significance: Ethical purification (mātsarya-tyāga, vivāda-tyāga) is framed as a prerequisite for receiving Śiva’s grace and performing svadharma without egoic friction.

It teaches that spiritual progress requires dropping conflict, shame-born hesitation, and envy—then steadily returning to one’s dharma with a purified mind, which aligns with Shaiva Siddhanta’s emphasis on cleansing mala (impurities) through right conduct.
Linga-worship is not only ritual but also ethical refinement; approaching Saguna Shiva with matsara (jealousy) and vivada (quarrel) obstructs devotion, while performing one’s duties with harmony becomes an offering (seva) to Shiva.
The practical takeaway is to calm the mind before worship—avoid argumentative speech, cultivate non-envy, and then perform daily Shiva practices (japa of “Om Namah Shivaya,” Tripundra/bhasma, or Rudraksha) with steadiness and sincerity.
