It maps specific Śaiva emblems to the directions, teaching that the devotee sanctifies space itself—recognizing Śiva (Pati) as the lord of all quarters while using sacred symbols to restrain bonds (pāśa) and cut ignorance (khaḍga).
This is a Saguna-oriented ritual framework: the worshipper honors Śiva’s powers through His ayudhas while performing a structured pūjā around the deity/Śiva-liṅga, integrating dik-pūjā (directional worship) as part of consecrating the altar and the mind.
Perform dik-pūjā by offering worship in the indicated quarters to the sword, noose, goad, and Pināka; inwardly meditate that the noose binds the ego, the goad turns the mind toward dharma, and the sword cuts avidyā—supported by japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” during the offerings.
