Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Significance: Teaches yuktāhāra/niyama: measured fasting and contentment purify karma and steady the mind for Śiva-bhakti and jñāna.
Shakti Form: Annapūrṇā
Role: nurturing
It teaches that tapas (austerity) must be governed by right measure: fasting and restraint should purify the mind and steady devotion to Pati (Shiva), not inflate ego or damage the body that supports sadhana.
Linga worship emphasizes inner purity and steadiness; this verse frames fasting as supportive discipline—meant to deepen reverence and concentration on Saguna Shiva, not as a display of extreme self-torture.
Observe vrata/fasting with moderation, and pair it with japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and calm meditation, keeping the body sufficiently sustained to maintain steady worship.
