शङ्खचूडवधकथनम् / The Account of Śaṅkhacūḍa’s Slaying
तपः प्रकुर्वतस्तस्य मूर्ध्नो निस्सृत्य प्रज्व लत् । विससार च सर्वत्र तत्तेजो हि सुदुस्सहम्
tapaḥ prakurvatastasya mūrdhno nissṛtya prajva lat | visasāra ca sarvatra tattejo hi sudussaham
当他修行强烈苦行之时,一道炽燃的光辉自其头顶迸发而出。那股能量遍满四方,因为那火焰般的威光确实令人难以承受。

Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Naṭarāja
Cosmic Event: Tejas generated by tapas becomes a world-afflicting force, a common prelude to divine intervention in Purāṇic cosmology.
The verse highlights the Shaiva Siddhanta idea that disciplined tapas concentrates consciousness and awakens tejas—an inner spiritual fire that purifies bondage (pāśa) and makes the aspirant fit for Shiva’s grace (anugraha).
Tejas is a hallmark of Saguna Shiva’s manifest power: the Linga is revered as the luminous presence of Shiva, and this spreading radiance mirrors how Shiva’s manifest energy pervades and transforms the worlds when devotion and tapas mature.
It points to sustained tapas through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), steady meditation, and purity disciplines; the ‘unbearable tejas’ implies practicing with guidance, humility, and restraint to stabilize the awakened energy.
