Satī’s Address to Śiva
सत्युवाच । देव देव महादेव शंभो मत्प्राणवल्लभ । शृणु मे वचनं नाथ श्रुत्वा तत्कुरु मानद
satyuvāca | deva deva mahādeva śaṃbho matprāṇavallabha | śṛṇu me vacanaṃ nātha śrutvā tatkuru mānada
萨蒂说道:“噢诸神之神,摩诃提婆,商布——我以生命相爱的主——请听我之言,噢主宰。听毕之后,请行其所当行,噢赐予尊荣者。”
Satī
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: nurturing
It shows Satī’s bhakti and śaraṇāgati (humble surrender): she addresses Śiva as the supreme Lord and requests attentive listening, emphasizing that right action should follow right understanding—an ethical and devotional cornerstone in Śaiva thought.
Satī’s direct personal address—“Mahādeva, Śambhu”—reflects Saguna devotion, where the Supreme (Pati) is approached with love and intimacy. Such relational devotion underlies Linga-worship too, where the formless reality is honored through a sacred form.
The verse highlights śravaṇa (listening) and obedient alignment of conduct with dharma. Practically, it supports daily Śiva-upāsanā through attentive mantra-japa (e.g., Pañcākṣarī) and mindful resolve to act rightly after prayer.
