गणसमागमः (Śiva Summons the Gaṇas for the Great Festival)
लोकान्तकश्च दीप्तात्मा तथा दैत्यान्तको मुने । देवो भृंगिरिटिश्श्रीमान्देवदेवप्रियस्तथा
lokāntakaśca dīptātmā tathā daityāntako mune | devo bhṛṃgiriṭiśśrīmāndevadevapriyastathā
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Kālāntaka
Cosmic Event: lokānta (end of worlds) motif alluded
The verse praises a foremost gaṇa of Śiva through powerful epithets—“Lokāntaka” and “Daityāntaka”—showing that proximity to Śiva transforms a being into a radiant instrument of dharma, removing both cosmic and inner “demonic” obstacles on the path to liberation.
By calling him “devadevapriya,” the verse directs devotion toward Saguna Śiva—the personal Lord who is worshiped as the Liṅga—while honoring His divine retinue; remembering Śiva together with His gaṇas reinforces reverence for Śiva’s living presence and protective grace in worship.
A practical takeaway is nāma-smaraṇa (repetition of Śiva’s names and praises) along with pañcākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”); this can be done while wearing rudrākṣa and applying tripuṇḍra bhasma as a Shaiva discipline of purity and focused devotion.
