रावणस्य तपः-शिवानुग्रहः — Rāvaṇa’s Austerity and Śiva’s Bestowal of Grace
देवा ऊचुः । सर्वं कार्य्यं समर्थोसि कर्तुं त्वं मुनिसत्तम । उपायं कुरु देवर्षे देवानां दुःखनाशने
devā ūcuḥ | sarvaṃ kāryyaṃ samarthosi kartuṃ tvaṃ munisattama | upāyaṃ kuru devarṣe devānāṃ duḥkhanāśane
诸天说道:“噢,最胜的圣贤啊,你能成就一切事业。因此,噢,天界仙人,请设法消除诸天的忧苦。”
The Devas
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It shows the Devas acknowledging that true relief from suffering requires a right “upāya” (means), typically fulfilled through Shiva’s grace and the guidance of realized sages—central to Shaiva Siddhanta’s emphasis on divine help in removing bondage and sorrow.
In the Kotirudra context, remedies for cosmic distress often culminate in turning toward Saguna Shiva—worship of the Linga, pilgrimage, and prayer—as a concrete, accessible means through which Shiva’s compassion removes duḥkha.
The verse implies seeking an efficacious upāya: taking refuge in Shiva through mantra-japa (especially the Panchakshara), and performing Shiva-pūjā with devotion; such practices are traditionally prescribed to dispel distress.
