The Determination of Śiva as the Meaning of Praṇava
ब्रह्माणमिन्द्रं सूर्य्यञ्च सोमं चैव प्रजापतिम् । आत्मानमन्तरात्मानं ज्ञानात्मानमतः परम्
brahmāṇamindraṃ sūryyañca somaṃ caiva prajāpatim | ātmānamantarātmānaṃ jñānātmānamataḥ param
彼即梵天(Brahmā)、因陀罗(Indra)、日神与苏摩(Soma),亦即生主(Prajāpati)。彼即自我、内在之我、纯净知性的自我;而超越这一切者,乃至上超然之至尊。
Suta Goswami (narrating the Kailasa Samhita teaching to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
It teaches that all cosmic powers (creator, ruler-gods, and progenitors) are ultimately dependent expressions, while Shiva as the Antarātman and Jñānātman is the one Conscious Reality—culminating in the Supreme that transcends all names and functions.
The verse supports Saguna worship (Shiva known through forms and divine functions) while pointing beyond it: the Linga signifies the One who pervades as the inner Self of all deities and yet remains ‘ataḥ param’—beyond all limiting identifications.
Meditate on Shiva as Antarātman while repeating the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), offering bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) and cultivating inner recollection that the same Lord shines as the knower within all beings.
