The Line of Kuśa and the Disfigurement of Kuśanābha’s Daughters by Vāyu
अन्तश्चरसि भूतानां सर्वेषां त्वं सुरोत्तम ।प्रभावज्ञा: स्म ते सर्वा: किमस्मानवमन्यसे।।।।
antaś carasi bhūtānāṃ sarveṣāṃ tvaṃ surottama |
prabhāvajñāḥ sma te sarvāḥ kim asmān avamanyase || 1.32.19 ||
“诸天之最啊,你行于一切众生之内。我们都知你的威力——为何却轻蔑我们?”
That great soul, Kusa, married the princess of Vidarbha born in a noble family and a match for him. He begot four virtuous sons who resembled him. They were Kusamba, Kusanabha, Adhurtarajas and Vasu.
True power must be joined with humility and righteousness. Dharma rejects the misuse of superiority to pressure or demean others, especially in matters of marriage and consent.
The maidens acknowledge Vāyu’s omnipresence and strength, yet challenge the disrespect implicit in his proposal.
Satya with courage: they speak truthfully about Vāyu’s power while ethically confronting his improper conduct.
