The Sound-Target Tragedy, the Sage’s Curse, and Dasaratha’s Death
शोकोपहतचित्तश्च भयसन्त्रस्तचेतनः।तच्चाऽश्रमपदं गत्वा भूयश्शोकमहं गतः।।।।
śokopahata-cittaś ca bhaya-santasta-cetanaḥ | tac cāśrama-padaṁ gatvā bhūyaḥ śokam ahaṁ gataḥ ||
我心为悲痛所击,神识又因恐惧而战栗;我前往那处修行林庵,而在那里,我的哀伤愈加深重。
Smitten with grief and my heart throbbing with fear I reached the hermitage and my sorrow became manifold.
Recognition of wrongdoing awakens inner suffering; dharma is not only external law but also the conscience that responds to harm done.
Daśaratha describes approaching the ascetic’s hermitage after realizing he has struck someone, and how dread and grief intensify.
Responsibility: he does not flee the scene but goes to the hermitage to face the outcome.
