The Sound-Target Tragedy, the Sage’s Curse, and Dasaratha’s Death
पुत्रव्यसनजं दुःखं यदेतन्मम साम्प्रतम्।एवं त्वं पुत्रशोकेन राजन्कालं करिष्यसि।।।।
putra-vyasana-jaṃ duḥkhaṃ yad etan mama sāmpratam | evaṃ tvaṃ putra-śokena rājan kālaṃ kariṣyasi ||
正如我现在承受着丧子之痛一样,国王啊,你也将在对自己儿子的悲痛中迎来你的终结。
'Just as I am now suffering from grief caused by my son's death, you, O king, shall die from the sorrow on account of (separation from) your son.
The verse asserts moral causality: the suffering one causes returns in kind; dharma’s order manifests as proportional consequence.
The ascetic pronounces the specific curse: Daśaratha will die due to grief connected with his own son.
The gravity of parental duty and attachment is underscored—showing how the bond with one’s child shapes both joy and ruin.
