Sarga 111: Counsel on Gurus, Parental Debt, and Bharata’s Protest
तेषामाज्ञाय वचनं रामो वचनमब्रवीत्।एवं निबोध वचनं सुहृदां धर्मचक्षुषाम्।।।।
teṣām ājñāya vacanaṃ rāmo vacanam abravīt |
evaṃ nibodha vacanaṃ suhṛdāṃ dharmacakṣuṣām ||
罗摩明白他们所说,便答道:“那么请听我们善意的友人之劝告,他们以达摩为眼而观。”
Having understood their words, Rama said to him, 'Listen to the words of our friends who have a righteous vision.'
Dharma-guided decision-making: Rama frames counsel as valuable when it arises from righteous discernment (dharmacakṣu), not from self-interest.
In the tense succession dispute after Daśaratha’s death, Rama responds to the gathered voices and directs attention to dharmic counsel.
Rama’s humility and commitment to dharma—he privileges righteous advice and collective well-being over personal claim.
