FAQs

It presents śravaṇa (devotional hearing) as spiritually transformative: by hearing the Gaṅgā’s mahātmyā from a revered teacher, the listener feels life becomes “fulfilled” and “fruitful,” indicating inner purification and accrued merit (puṇya).

The verse models bhakti through reverent reception of sacred narration—honoring the teacher’s “lotus mouth” and valuing repeated listening to tīrtha-mahātmyas, which traditionally nourish faith (śraddhā) and remembrance of the divine.

While no specific Vedāṅga is named, the verse emphasizes the disciplined practice of śravaṇa in a traditional teaching setting—an applied aspect of Vedic learning culture supported by correct recitation and comprehension (often associated with śikṣā and vyākaraṇa in broader pedagogy).
