The Greatness of the Gaṅgā
kapila uvāca | ye tu nāśamihecchaṃtiṃ yaśobaladhanāyuṣām | ta eva lokānbādhante nātrāścaryaṃ surottamāḥ || 85 ||
Kapila
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: raudra
It identifies malicious intent—wishing the downfall of others’ merit and wellbeing—as a direct cause of worldly disturbance, reinforcing that inner adharma manifests as outer harm and social suffering.
By warning against envy and harm, it indirectly supports bhakti as a purifying discipline: devotion to the Divine is sustained by non-malice (adroha) and goodwill, which preserve one’s own and others’ auspiciousness.
No specific Vedanga technique is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is ethical restraint (yama-like conduct) as a foundation for any mantra, ritual, or spiritual practice to bear fruit.
