The Exposition of Spiritual Knowledge
Jñāna-pradarśanam
कश्चिदासीत्पुरा विप्र ब्राह्मणो रैवतेऽन्तरे । वेदमालिरिति ख्यातो वेदवेदाङ्गपारगः ॥ १० ॥
kaścidāsītpurā vipra brāhmaṇo raivate'ntare | vedamāliriti khyāto vedavedāṅgapāragaḥ || 10 ||
婆罗门啊,往昔在罗伊瓦塔王治世之时,有一位婆罗门名为吠陀摩利,通达诸吠陀及其支分学(吠陀支)。
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: none
It introduces an exemplary brāhmaṇa whose authority rests on complete Vedic learning, establishing that the forthcoming teaching or episode is grounded in śāstra (Veda) and disciplined knowledge.
Indirectly: by presenting a Veda–Vedāṅga master, it frames bhakti and dharma as practices best understood and sustained when aligned with scriptural knowledge rather than mere sentiment.
The verse highlights competence in the Vedāṅgas—such as Śikṣā (phonetics), Vyākaraṇa (grammar), Chandas (meter), Nirukta (etymology), Jyotiṣa (Vedic astronomy/astrology), and Kalpa (ritual procedure)—as the mark of a true Vedic expert.
