Ekādaśī Vrata-Vidhi and the Galava–Bhadrashīla Itihāsa
Dharmakīrti before Yama
निराहारश्च तत्राहमेकाकी तज्जनैः सह । जागरं कृतवांश्वापि सेनया रहितो निशि ॥ ६४ ॥
nirāhāraśca tatrāhamekākī tajjanaiḥ saha | jāgaraṃ kṛtavāṃśvāpi senayā rahito niśi || 64 ||
在那里,我断食而住,虽独身却与众人同在;夜间即便没有军队随行,我仍守持不眠之警醒(jāgara)。
Narada (narrating in first person, within the Narada–Sanatkumara dialogue frame)
Vrata: Ekādaśī (implied by context)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It highlights tapas through two classic disciplines—nirāhāra (fasting) and jāgaraṇa (night vigil)—showing steadiness of mind even when external supports (like an army) are absent.
Though Vishnu is not named here, the practices of fasting and keeping vigil are common bhakti-supporting vrata elements, training attention, humility, and dependence on inner spiritual strength rather than worldly protection.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana or Jyotisha) is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is vrata-dharma discipline—nirāhāra and jāgaraṇa—as a lived application of dharmic conduct.
