The Pañcarātra Vow (Haripañcaka Vrata): Observance from Śukla Ekādaśī to Pūrṇimā
एकाशी च भवेत्तस्मिन् दिने नियममास्थिताः । ततः प्रातः समुत्थाय ह्येकादश्यां मुनीश्वरः ॥ ५ ॥
ekāśī ca bhavettasmin dine niyamamāsthitāḥ | tataḥ prātaḥ samutthāya hyekādaśyāṃ munīśvaraḥ || 5 ||
在那一天,应持守克制与戒律,只进食一次。随后于圣日爱迦达希(Ekādaśī)清晨早起,尊贵的牟尼主(munīśvara)当依仪轨继续修持。
Narada (teaching within a vrata/ritual instruction dialogue, commonly framed in Narada–Sanatkumara discourse)
Vrata: Ekādaśī-vrata
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It emphasizes niyama (self-restraint) as the foundation of vrata: regulating food (one meal) and beginning Ekādaśī with early rising, which prepares the mind for devotion and ritual purity.
By prescribing disciplined conduct—moderation in eating and waking early on Ekādaśī—it frames bhakti as a lived practice where bodily restraint supports remembrance and worship of the divine (commonly Vishnu on Ekādaśī).
Kalpa (ritual procedure) is implicit: the verse gives a vrata-vidhi cue—dietary regulation on the prior day and the timing marker of Ekādaśī morning for commencing the observance.
